Perfect for our 15 yr old son who didn’t want to wear a medical bracelet and draw attention to his diabetes. (like the insulin pump did’nt already do that). We took it to “Things Remembered” at the mall where they stamped a “medic alert” image on it (which is not bright red) and stamped Type I Diabetes on it. It looks great and my son likes it. Very durable also.

Very informative. Easy to read and understand. Almost every disease I looked up was listed, and gave an easy to understand description of the symptoms and treatments. This book is a nice accompaniment to the “AMA Complete Medical Encyclopedia”. If I had to choose only one book, I would choose the “AMA Family Medical Guide”.

It is no surprise that the latest edition of this excellent consumer reference is better than ever. For those who are newcomers to the power of this authoritative tome, its centerpiece is a series of symptom charts enabling users to conduct the equivalent of a differential self-diagnosis. Charts are available for the most common symptomologies–e.g. coughing, chest pain, abdominal pain, back pain. Through an interrogatory consisting of sequential questions which might be asked by a health professional presented with the symptoms in question, the charts guide the reader to action steps–ranging from reassurance and self-help options to advise to seek medical attention (urgently or in due course as the case may be).

By saving unnecessary visits to the doctor’s office or emergency room (thus helping to control medical costs) or spurring the overly complacent to imperative action, the AMA does a great service to the public and the profession by publishing this reference at an extremely affordable price.

The bulk of the book consists of articles regarding various diseases and conditions encompassing symptomology, description diagnostic techniques (tests and such) likely to be employed, treatment options, and the range of expected prognoses–in a nutshell, what do I have, how will they find out, what will they do to treat me, and what’s the outlook in terms of cure and survival.

A wealth of reliable, understandable information is readily accessible to the lay person and accompanied by helpful illustrations.

I have relied on this book for years to help me deal intelligently with health matters involving my friends, my family, and myself. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking to empower themselves to be a prudent steward of health and well being.

The update is most welcome, as the dynamic pace of medicine has yielded therapeutic innovations (in particular new pharmaceuticals) that provide much happier endings to many of the disease entries.

I definitely recommend this exercise bike for anyone who wants a great, fun workout.

This first aid kit looks great, and is ideal for the 3-5 person hiking/camping trips that I take with friends and with family. However, the item shipped to me from Amazon was full of expired medical items. I purchased a similar item from a local outdoor-ing retailing. Give yourself enough time to expect a refund before getting a valid item.

First I’m not sure why this is [...] bucks on Amazon, you’ll be even more disappointed if you get it for THAT price. Paying the $[...] at Target will make you feel a bit better when you realize it’s not that nice so at least you didn’t pay to much for it. My toddler likes it but I’ll tell you the cons I see from it.

1) It says it has a real working stethescope. Like the other reviewers here, to say it’s a “working” one is stretching it, it’s hard to hear the heart through it. The worst part though is that having it on your ears to wear actually is uncomfortable. My daughter said it hurts to wear.
2) The blood pressure tool was kinda funny, it secures closed with velcro that is so far apart that it was very loose on my husband! It literally falls off my child. So we added more velcro to it.
3) The bag is closed with one small square of velcro allowing the tools to topple over when you toss the bag into the toy bin or if the child spills it.

And all that from a brand I expected more from. Hmmm. I’m currently looking at a nicer set from Target made by “Parents” company, it has more tools and a real latching doctors box.

I bought this kit for my toddler after reading reviews of other similar kits not made by Fisher-Price. I was mostly swayed by the brand and the “working stethoscope” promise. The kit is well-made and durable, with no sharp plastic edges or anything that looks like it could come off and become a choking hazard. The stethoscope does conduct sound, however you really need to press it to someone’s chest to hear the heartbeat faintly. I will get a real stethoscope somewhere at a pharmacy to supplement this. Otherwise, all the other tools are fun to use and educational. For anyone considering a start up doctor kit, I recommend buying from a trusted brand so you know the items are of good quality with no unfinished seams/edges or the like.

The waist of the shirt runs big. When I tie up the string, there’s just so much extra material making the back look bunched up. The pants have an elastic back and even if I tie the string tightly, they fall down a bit. Thank goodness that I wear a lab coat over my scrubs. Also, the material is very stiff. I don’t wear the shirt and pants together because the string from the pants pops out so much, thus making the shirt pop out as well.
